This lighthouse known as “Slangkop Lighthouse” translated “snake head lighthouse” is the tallest cast iron lighthouse in South Africa. It came into operation on the 4th March 1919 and in terms of candlepower is the 4th strongest in South Africa with a total of 5 000 000 C.D..

If I have my bearings correct and you head out directly above the lighthouse you will (after a while) bump into a small palce called South America – lol.

After the last couple of frontal systems that have pasted through the Cape Town the waves have increased in size. Here is a photograph of the wave pools in Kalk Bay getting pounded.

The boogie boarders to the left are enjoying it though. Just for your interest in SURFING in and around Cape Town – see this clip of the highlights of the 2008 Red Bull Big Wave Africa, held in (around the corner) Hout Bay.

Out of interest the building with the green roof (and the white roof) is a famous drinking hole down this side of the world, known as the “Brass Bell

Certainly not the best picture I have ever taken in and around Cape Town; it is blurred and kind of out of focus, which really really irratated me as I thought it would come out rather nicely.

Oh well, should have up’ed the ISO to 400 (instead of ISO 100) then things would have been different – lol.

Not to sure of the distance between the two but it seems rather close to me. Fishing boat left and that black blob to the right of the boat is the whale.

And if you where interested – the captain of the boat did know where the whale was, and navigated to the right to avoid a collision.

Why is it called Misty Cliffs you might be asking?

Well see the mist that is where it is, actually it is more like sea spray from those huge waves but we will let that one slip through the cracks.

PS that PAYPAL account is almost set up for those domations.

A little hamlet not far from Scarborough lies Misty Cliffs, before I die this place is on my to do list, i.e. buy a house here.

Seriously, I want a house here – so what I am going to do is set up a PAYPAL account and ask for domainations and hopefully I will raise enough cash to buy.

Joking or am I.

This is what happens when those frontal systems move through the Southern Atlantic ocean, good sized waves.

This photograph was taken near Kommetjie, just on the other side of the bay from Hout Bay. Hout Bay hosts ever year a big wave surfing competition known as “red bull big wave Africa“, with + 25 foot waves this is one of the (in my opinion) most awesome sporting events in South Africa.

Just before you arrive in Simon’s Town from the Muizenberg side there is a mountain pass that heads up towards Red Hill, turn right and drive up here. You will not regret it as the views are absolutely stunning.

Simon’s Town harbor is to the left, all the water is False Bay and Fishhoek and Muizenber are to the left.

Note the weather that we have been having lately, SUMMER IS ON IT”S WWWWWWWWAAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY

One of the great aspects of Cape Town is that with all the Fynbos surrounding the place these types of photographs just sometimes jump out at you.

The yellow’s and blues with the green sign (does it for me), as you can see that polarizing filter of mine was working over time.

Scarborough beach, one of the better beaches in and around Cape Town, OK it is a drive to get here but well worth the effort.

Good for sun tanning, relaxing and surfing (when the conditions are right).

Exciting news; have a look at my new Cape Town Map – this will give you an idea of where each photo graph was taken…….

This photograph was taken from Kommetjie looking towards Hout Bay, the winding road that you are looking at is one of the most scenic roads in the WORLD.

Called Chapman’s Peak Drive, which by the way is currently close due to rock falls.

Dating back to 1824, this (according to my research) was the first solidly constructed light built on the South African coast. It’s light can be seen as far out as 25 miles to sea.

Question; why did they paint this lighthouse with red strips (me i do not know)?

I would presume it would be to late if you where on a ship and saw the red ( you would already be on the beach ask a friendly local for a bit of help).

I must say that the detail on the walls of this ???? building are absolutely awe inspiring. I choose B&W for this shot as it make the incredible detail stand out.

Out of interest “Spes Bona” means “Good hope” in Latin i.e. Cape of Good Hope.
