Me thinks that every pro – photographer in Cape Town was here in Kalk Bay – the funny thing was that I had the only Pentax, it honestly looked like Canon had a convention in town – lol.

I do fear that I had the small penis syndrome though, I had the smallest lens by far and it was rather embarrassing – lol.

Here are some more photographs;

Now you can see the floating tables more clearly!

This photograph was taken from St. James – note that the wave is almost as high as the pylons for the trains. This is what it normally looks like – St. James

Kalk Bay pier is submerged, what it normally looks like; Kalk Bay Pier.

And finally to give you an idea of how powerful these waves where, here is a table (+- 1.5 metres long) sitting +- 4 to 5 metres above the ocean after having been put there by those monster waves.

  1. Wow. Awesome shots!

I particularly like the “this is what it usually looks like perspectives” because for those who don’t live here it would be hard to get a sense of how high the seas were.

Poor old Brass Bell. I hope they are well insured. How did Harbour House fare this time around?

Yes the poor brass bell – I agree as this is where I quite often like to have a beer – but that will not happen for the next few months.

The staff where trying to get and save those tables but to avail, but at the end of the day no one was hurt and that counts more than any financial loss.

The sea here in Muizenberg is just as crazy as it was yesterday!

Cheerz and thanks for the comments.

  3. Good pics bro!I was silly not to head down False Bay way myself for a gawk, with my ”little” Sony Cybershot. But it is not yet too late.I’m a tour guide,so these shots will be great to show our vissitors.

The brassbell has had a good hammering before over the years – the bar is fairly open and it usually gets a good drenching once or twice a year when bad storms move through the Cape… this year has been a little more harsh than normal though.

Personally, I am looking forward to getting to the Brass Bell come Oct time when the sun is out after a good body boarding session for a beer :)

  5. Oh no! I was just booking my flight to return to CT – top of my list was return dinner at the Brass Bell! Where else will I get such hake and chips???

well dude i know exactly what u mean about the pentax cannon nikon thing! i also use a k10d and love it every day. I have just bought a 50mm prime lens and i am even more astounded every time i click… btw it cant zoom and it is much smaller than all the other lenses!!

i lived in CT long ago but i can nearly smell the sea spray coming off those waves keep up the great work!

    cheers

Thanks Hein, A 50mm prime is the one lens I do not have but I am working on it. But one of interest a few months ago I bought a 50-500mm (which is a 75-750mm on a k10d), so now at last I can complete in the size category – lol
