St. James Manor for obvious reasons is located in the village of St. James next to the famous Kalk Bay, approximately a 20 to 25 min drive from Cape Town city centre. Offering the best Cape Town hotel view with commanding views of the entire False Bay area. the seaside retreat offers six spectacular rooms all of which are ensuite and offer spectacular vistas of oceans and mountains.

The St. James Manor when these photographs were taken is a five-star seaside retreat like the other minutes away from the fishing village of Kalk Bay, one of the must see destination is when one is visiting Cape Town. This historic home that is over 100 years old is located in an area that is known as “millionaires mile”, for the obvious reasons that each and every single one of these properties offers fast and expensive views over the whole of the false Bay area and on a good day one can see as far as Hermanus.

During Cape Town’s winter months this area is a prime location for Whale watching as these mighty beasts migrate here every year to calf (to deliver the baby whales).

Certainly an area that is well worth the visit and should certainly be up there on your list of areas to stay in winning Cape Town.

Simply one of the nicest aspects of this Cape Town hotel is the swimming pool, it is at least 20 to 25 m long (perfect for those of us who love to chase laps). The entire swimming pool area offers the utmost in privacy as well as simply stunning views of the mountains behind this guesthouse. One aspect of forgot to mention is that the swimming pool is solar heated and 60 m² in total size.

Cape Town by helicopter wow what a day that was, after having lived here for the last 8 to 9 years I finally got the chance to go to the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront climb aboard a helicopter and go for a spin.

Unfortunately the spin was rather short due to the fact that Parliament was opening and if we’d stayed up any longer they were threatening to shoot us down over security concerns. Go figure, these are the people that we voted into power skin of tourists in a helicopter, a well I suppose there are another spent anywhere.

Most probably the one aspect that has kept me from doing it for all this time is the price, I could never justify it. But now I feel a bit humbled as for nine years I have been wrong. It is now my goal to get my whole family on board and show them the area we live in from a completely different angle.

This is just a quick video of what I experienced that there a superb and I mean it superb opportunity to see the city of Cape Town from a completely different angle. Very highly recommended should you be looking for something completely different to do while in town.

The helipad is very centrally located not far from all Cape Town hotels, the only time they do not fly is obviously when it is overcast and rainy as well as when it was very windy. You have about four or five options as far as operators are concerned all or exceptionally good in terms of what the offer and pricing. The company briefly with was NAC, of whom I can highly recommend.

My only disappointment of the day was that the windows from which I was taking the video footage from all seem to be very very scratched hence the video is not the clearest I’ve ever taken.

Cheers,
James

This is a follow-up to my previous post on my Safari to the Madikwe Game Reserve with a Madikwe Lodge Review, the second nights Lodge that we stayed at is called “Mateya Safari Lodge”. Luxury and complete and utter service from the minute one arrives to the minute departs, very much an old school kind of Safari Lodge with emphasis on space, artwork and ambiance.

Yes this is upmarket Lodge where prices are quite expensive but then again pay for what you get, And what you get here at Mateya Safari Lodge is privacy by the bucketloads. There are five suites each with private plunge pools and more room then you can swing a cat at, the bathrooms are a sight to behold there is marble Bath’s, sinks and indoor shower areas. Let’s not forget the artwork that hangs on the walls is of the finest that one can find, this is certainly an area that I could stay easily for three or four nights.

Mateya Safari Lodge - That huge Suite

The only downside to this Lodge is the walk from the main Lodge to the individual suites, I am relatively fit but boy did I struggle to get up and down the stairs (I think it’s the smoking) but anyway that is what it is and just remember those stairs are steep and long. That my friends is really and truly the only downside of this Lodge.

The main area where the bar is and where you will eat hosts a library as well (Here I go again about artwork) as some of the finest African artwork I have ever come across outside of my art gallery, I am seriously not joking about this I could have Spent all day walking around and standing every aspect of this Lodge ( that is why said I could stay easily three or four days). This Madikwe Lodge Review is from a safari that I undertook around the end March 2012…..

Madikwe Lodge Review

Hi guys and girls, just got back from a Safari to the Madikwe Game Reserve in the North West province of South Africa. This is my first in a long line of Madikwe Safari updates, please enjoy.

Impodimo Lodge - Luxury Suite

Without a doubt I had an absolutely awesome time in all respects, got some fantastic wildlife photographs, met some fantastic people, and stayed at some fantastic lodges. All in all I had a fantastic time (How many times is it possible to say fantastic in one sentence???).

Anyways, Here are a few photographs and links to some other lodges that I stayed at;

Impodimo Lodge - Luxury Suite view

Madikwe Safari updates; This is where we spent our first night, an absolutely stunning Lodge with exceptional wildlife at the right price – what more can one ask….

A Safari to the Madikwe area of South Africa offers one the chance to see the big five as well as African wild dogs, but probably the main attraction to this reserve is the fact that it is malaria free. Being a malaria free game reserve, this offers families the opportunity to safari in Africa without the fear of the kids and loved ones contracting this terrible disease.

In fact I can go as far as saying that if there is one game reserve in the whole of Africa that is ideally suited to family safaris it is the Madikwe. Almost every single Lodge barring one or two caters for families, children welcome is pretty much the motto of this reserve. You know what you will certainly not be disappointed if this is where you decide to Safari with your family.

Impodimo Game Lodge - Swimming Pool

Out of interest this reserve is 3 1/2 hours drive from Johannesburg and is malaria free, offers the big five as well as fantastic sightings of African wild dogs. Not to forget the spectacular vistas and scenery on offer. A superb location for any Madikwe Safari.

Cheers and enjoy your weekend.
